I decided on Japanese for my language requirement because I wanted to challenge myself to try and understand a language that is completely foreign to me.
I have taken multiple years of Spanish, and have become somewhat fluent over the years; Working with fellow chefs in the kitchen and workers on the construction sites certainly did help a lot.
Hebrew is a language that I contain some knowledge in as well. Being a Jew I have grown up around Hebrew for practically my entire life. From my early years at Sunday school, to my few years living in Israel, Hebrew will always be a language that brings back a nostalgic feeling whenever I here it being spoken.
As I think about the languages I am comfortable with, my mind continues to travel east from region to region. Europe, the Middle East, maybe I was destined to learn a language from the Asian continent all along. My early college education has taught me that Japan plays a huge role in Global Business, and having some "nihongo" knowledge maybe something that helps me stand out to my future hirers.
One thing is for sure, I definitely challenged myself.
Your background in languages is really interesting, you don't really see too many people who were raised with Hebrew and grown up in a Jewish community trying to learn Japanese. You're gonna have a whole range of different kinds of languages after this, because Hebrew looks pretty different from Japanese, which is very different from English and Spanish
